Small Business Owner Tax Tips and Changes

It's that time of year again to shuffle through paperwork and get organized for filing your taxes. There have been a few Tax updates I ran onto and thought I would share them with you.

The maximum allowable deduction for equipment put into service under Section 179 increases to $108,000.

The standard mileage rate for the cost of operating your car, van, pickup, or panel truck for business is now 44.5 cents for all business miles driven.

Businesses may receive a 30% credit for the installation of solar heating and fuel-cell equipment.

Small businesses with no more than 100 employees will receive a credit of up to $500 per year against the cost of the first three years of a new pension plan.

Companies with more than one employee that manufacture or produce tangible property in the U.S. may be able to deduct 3% of income from their production activities.

The maximum amount of wages subject to the Social Security tax increases to $94,200.
The self-employment tax rate on net earnings is 15.3%, which includes 12.4% for Social Security and 2.9% for Medicare.

Employers and employees will pay 6.2% for Social Security tax and 1.45% for Medicare tax.

Be sure to discuss these changes and others with your tax professional or advisor.

Maximizing your Business Tax Savings
Don't pay more than you have to this tax season. Look over these commonly missed deductions. Then take full advantage of the tax breaks you may be eligible for as a business owner or self-employed entrepreneur.

Auto expenses for actual miles driven or for all actual expenses related to business, including gasoline and repair costs

Home office expenses

Bank charges related to business

Interest and fees on business debt

Interest on credit card debt — card must be used for business only
Taxes such as sales tax on business purchases and real estate tax on business property

Ongoing costs of doing business, including utilities, shipping, office supplies, advertising, and marketing (including sponsorships), rental or lease payments (property and equipment)

Telephone and Internet charges

Depreciation

The purchase of office equipment, furniture, and business vehicles

Business gifts

Professional fees (legal, accounting/bookkeeping, architectural, business consulting, and marketing consulting)

Seminars, classes, educational tapes or CDs, and conventions

Trade-related journal subscriptions, books, and other literature

Health-insurance premiums

Moving expenses

Charitable contributions

Losses from theft, fraud, and business-property/contents damage not covered by insurance

Uniforms and cleaning — as long as the garment is used for no purposes other than business, you may be able to deduct some of the purchase and cleaning costs

With so many deductions available to you, it is critical that you keep accurate records to save as much as possible on your taxes. It's always nice when this season is over, but if you go into doing your taxes educated with the updates it will make it less stressful.

Veretekkies take the Helm for Sunday's conference

What a nice Sunday update conference we had last night. Paulette Sherb and Butch Hamiltion were co-hosts since Tom and Mike were both out of town. Many of the trainers came to the mic and talked about their expertise so this is a good one to listen and know who's trainings you want to learn from.

Veretekk State of the Week RECORDING

Personally I was in and out of the conference, but I got it recorded for you. Sunday's for us at our house is filled with family time which also involves training and brainstorming about business. Both of our kids are in business with us and we generally mix family time and business on Sunday's.

As a proud Mom I wanted to post a testimony from my son Matt... it was so inspiring to me and I think it will be for you too.

From Matt McAsey:
Have you ever just felt like there is no way to get out of debt? Well being a full time college student I have definaltly had to deal with having nothing in the bank. Well that was until lately anyway. I remember when I was around the age of eleven I had all these dreams and ambitions. (live in a huge house in the country, have a boat so I could go fishing when ever I wanted, have a big nice souped up four-wheel-drive truck) Well after spending a enlistment in the Navy and now working on a degree in Kinesology, I started to think that my dreams might not be as easy to reach if I couldn't find a way to make some money. I was starting to think that maybe those dreams might not be as realistic as I had once thought.

I would like to spread the word about Shakle*. Like I said earlier, being a full time college student means that money is not something that I have a lot of. When I first started Shakle* (about 2 month ago) I was working 20 hours a week as a mechanic (making about $6.50 an hour) along with 16 hours of college credit at a major university. This was not an easy task. I was getting so tired of going to school all day then having to go out to work. Not to mention after work I would come home looking like I had just crawled out of barrel of oil.

My mother had gotten me on the shakle* products years ago. And the day that I turned 18 I was signed up a a distributor. For the first 7 years of being involved I really didn't do anything. When I did make up my mind that this was what that I wanted to do I started putting just 2 hours a night into it. In the first month of actually working to make money I made around $1000 for working 40 hours. I just finished my second month of working around 10 hours a week on shakle* and my check this month is $1800. Now, if I calculate how much money I made per hour this month it comes to about $45. Who wouldn't like to make $45 an hour. And the best part of it is my check just keeps on growing from month to month, and I'm not having to work anymore than I did when I started.

I have huge goals for my business and with these new goals I'm starting to dream again!

My mother has always told me that dreams become reality. I think that this is extremely important, because as we get older and we get stuck in the same old routine and we stop dreaming. Shakle* is going to be my ticket to a long, HEALTHY and happy life with the ones that I love.

I want everyone else to have this same opportunity. Believe in yourself that you can do it.. All that it takes is the motivation to make goals for yourself then start working toward them.
